Exciting New Work from Mel Miller

Mel Miller has been stocking Self Preservation since she was awarded 1st Price in the Small Beautiful Objects competition we hosted in 2008 together with IeatIdrinkIwork in conjunction with the Food and Wine Festival. Her range of quirky, cute jewellery incorporates felt and little fluffy pom-poms, that come in all the colours of the rainbow, so the wearer can be colour-coordinated, matching jewels with shoes, handbag and the like.

Mel brought in this amazing range of felt pieces. The inside of the hand felted balls are Steel wool and the outside is lovely soft Merino. The range is in the front window - and a customer today asked if they were marshmallows! I think they look more like olives. What do you think?

New Work From Kane Greenhatch

We recently started stocking Gold- and Silversmith Extraordinaire Kane Greenhatch. We love his text-rings - which he can make to order with specific text or you can buy it as is and make up your own words.

He also makes some coffee inspired jewellery, brooches made from coffee pots with sterling silver backings. As you know, coffee is of high importance here at Self Preservation, so these pieces have been hovering on the top of our list of favourites these last couple of weeks.

The text rings are priced from $270.

New Look Self Preservation

There's been all sorts of changes happening here at Self Preservation. We've swapped everything around!

At the front of the store we've added a gorgeous inviting communal table. Perfect for your morning coffee, lunch or a glass of wine in the evening. We have added some new things to the menu - hot soup and meatballs to warm you up in this unpredictable spring weather. We still offer our fresh salads and ham and cheese rolls.

The jewellery has moved to the rear of the store, where we used to have the gallery space. We've got a few new artists in and I will be adding photos and info tomorrow.

In the mean time, do drop in for a glass of vino or a coffee and a browse.
